Homer's Place, My Space

Prepping Your Place
Homer Video Clip

1. HOMER PREP: We are looking to form a timeline of Winslow Homer's working life so that we can better understand him as an artist. With your assigned area of concentration (below) please use the sites at the bottom of this page to do a bit of research on Winslow Homer. Your research should include the following:
A. Two images from your time period (include title, medium, size, etc.)
B. Dates of your time period (as best as you can find)
C. At least two interesting nuggets about this period in Homer's history.

  • Early years (no art here; find early Homer history, locations, art beginnings)
  • Studio / Prout's Neck
  • Cullercoats, England
  • Prints & Drawings
  • Gloucester, MA
  • Bahamas, FLA
  • Civil War Era
  • Adirondacks / Watercolors

2. HOMER ANALYSIS: In preparation for our work with Winslow Homer and his Sense of Place, you will be assigned, as part of a group, one of the following images to study and analyze through a series of in-depth questions.
